Creating your BV or holding in the Netherlands with Qonto

  • Updated

Qonto's Company Creation lets you incorporate your Dutch BV (on its own or together with a holding BV) and open your Qonto business account in one online process, with a dedicated notary and your Qonto business account ready to activate the day your company is registered at the KvK.

If you cannot find what you need below, contact our support team in English or Dutch.

Getting started

What is Company Creation?

A service that incorporates your Dutch BV, on its own or with a holding BV, and opens your Qonto business account in one online process. A dedicated notary handles the legal side.

Who can use it?

Anyone incorporating a BV in the Netherlands, with or without a holding structure. You can be a Dutch resident or based abroad, with no restrictions on nationality.

Do I need a Qonto account before I start?

No. The process begins with creating your Qonto credentials. If you already have a Qonto account in another country, you can still use Company Creation, and your new Dutch BV will get its own Qonto business account.

Can I incorporate while I’m physically outside the Netherlands?

Yes. The whole process is online, so you can register your BV or holding from anywhere in the world. Identity verification (KYC) happens via video call with the notary, no office visit required. The BV or holding itself will be a Dutch legal entity, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK), with its registered address in the Netherlands.

Packages and pricing

What packages do you offer?

Package Price Timeline Languages Shareholders
BV Standard €575 15 business days Dutch only Max 1 shareholder and 1 board member
BV Fast €1,000 5 business days Dutch or English Max 3 shareholders and 1 board member
BV + Holding €1,750 5 business days Dutch or English Max 3 shareholders and 1 board member

All packages include 6 months of Qonto free on whichever plan you choose.

What is the KvK fee?

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) charges a one-time registration fee of €82.25, paid as part of the incorporation. This is the only cost outside the package price.

When do I pay?

You pay nothing up front. Your package fee is paid to the notary only after your entity is officially registered at the KvK.

Every package includes a Qonto business account for free for the first 6 months on whichever plan you choose. The Smart plan is pre-selected by default, as we believe that it includes everything that an entrepreneur needs to start their business (cards, transfers, invoicing, accounting integrations, and more); you can choose a different plan if you wish. After 6 months, you are billed monthly for whichever plan you are on.

Can I get a refund?

You can stop the process at any point before registration without being charged. After registration, the package fee is final.

The process

How does it work, step by step?

  1. Create your Qonto credentials. Email, code, password.
  2. Tell us about your business. Confirm you are starting a new company.
  3. Choose your package. BV Standard, BV Fast, or BV + Holding.
  4. Provide your company details. A short form (about 10 to 15 minutes) collects what your notary needs, including identity documents.
  5. Connect with the notary. Within two working days, your dedicated notary contacts you to schedule a video appointment. After the appointment, the notary registers your entity at the KvK within 5 or 15 business days, depending on the package you selected.
  6. Activate your Qonto business account. Once your BV is registered, search for it by KvK number or company name. If you select it from the results, your business details are pre-filled and you complete activation in a few clicks. (You can also enter the details manually if your company does not appear in the search.)

How long does it take?

Up to 15 business days for BV Standard, and up to 5 business days for BV Fast and BV + Holding (incorporation and account activation combined).

What documents do I need?

The documents you provide depend on whether your shareholders are individuals or other companies:

  • Individual shareholders: a valid passport and a proof of address.
  • Company shareholders (such as a holding or another entity): a certificate of incorporation or extract from trade register not older than a month

You will also need to provide basic company information: name, address, business activity, and shareholder details.

Will I need to visit a notary office?

No. The notary handles your case fully online via video call.

Who is the notary?

Qonto works with a dedicated Dutch notary partner for all BV incorporations. The same notary handles your case from start to finish.

Qonto works with Van Campen Liem, a dedicated Dutch notary firm specialized in Dutch company incorporations. The same notary handles your case from start to finish, so you are not passed between providers. You also have access to Zebra Legal, an independent Dutch legal partner who can answer specific legal questions during your incorporation.

Your Qonto business account

How does the 6 months of Qonto free work?

Every package includes 6 months of Qonto at no cost on whichever plan you choose. Smart is pre-selected by default (Dutch IBAN, cards, invoicing, expense management, and Dutch accounting integrations), but you can switch to any plan at any time, including during the free period. After 6 months, you are billed for whichever plan you are on.

What features come with my account?

With Smart, you get a Dutch IBAN, physical and virtual cards, invoicing, expense management, multi-user access, and integrations with Dutch accounting tools. To see what is included with every plan, visit the pricing page.

Holding structures

Can I create a holding company alongside my BV?

Yes. The BV + Holding package incorporates both your operating BV and a holding BV in one process, in 5 business days.

How do I manage two entities?

Each entity gets its own Qonto business account, but you manage both from a single Qonto login. Here is how it works:

  1. During the company creation process, pick one of the two entities and complete the flow with its KvK number.
  2. Once you've signed the contract for the first account, log in to the Qonto app.
  3. Inside the app, click "Add another organization" and follow the steps to open the account for the second BV.

You end up with two separate Qonto business accounts (each with its own IBAN and cards), but a single login lets you switch between them and manage them independently.

Support

Who do I contact during the incorporation?

Your dedicated notary handles questions about the legal incorporation (documents, KvK registration, deeds). Qonto's customer support team is available in English and Dutch for anything about your Qonto account, the process flow, or the package, typically within one business day.

Can I get legal advice?

The notary handles standard incorporation questions. Your package also includes consulting with our Dutch legal partner on specific legal questions.
