How can I submit international transfers in foreign currencies and how much does it cost?

  • Updated

You can now make a foreign currency transfer via our partner Wise, which allows you to process these through local networks, in addition to SWIFT.

This solution is faster, cheaper, and offers the same seamless experience as Wise. You can now send GBP to the United Kingdom, INR to India, AUD to Australia (and many other currencies), which will be credited within seconds to a maximum of 3 business days. The exact receipt time is indicated in your app when you make a transfer.

You can send USD to any country on the list via the SWIFT network. All currencies other than USD can only be sent to their home country (see the list of available countries below).

👆Good to know: to send USD to the US, you must use the ACH network, not SWIFT (requirements are in the List of accepted currencies tab below).

You can make an international transfer with the same speed and ease as with Wise, directly from your Qonto account. You don't need a Wise account.

What are the costs?

The following rates apply to international SWIFT transfers in foreign currencies.

Note: these have been revised to offer you a more competitive offer with various improvements!

  • much faster processing times (some even instant)
  • we can estimate the receipt date of the transfer for your beneficiary
  • the list of accessible countries is much larger

For 75% of your transactions, we can execute your transfers via our partner's national account network.

We distinguish between:

  • standard currencies, such as USD / CHF / GBP
  • non-standard currencies (INR, AED, CAD, ILS, HKD, TRY, THB, UYU, KES, CRC, CLP, HUF, MXN, GHS, AUD, IDR, MAD, SGD, CZK, ZAR, KRW, JPY, CNY, NZD, VND).

Depending on your subscription, you have a higher or lower rate.

Fees via our partner's national accounts:

  • minimum fee of €5 or application of the following rate if the fees are higher than €5.

For USD transfers to a non-US country, a fixed fee of €5 or €15 is added, depending on the payment option chosen by our partner's algorithm which is the most advantageous for you: SHA or OUR.

This can also happen if you delay the validation of the transfer or if an information request is sent to you by our Compliance department.

What is the receipt time? ⏱

You can submit international transfers in foreign currencies at any time and the cut-off for payments varies by currency.

It is necessary to take into account the bank holidays of the banks through which the transfer will pass.

Different time zones can also affect the delay in sending and receiving the transfer.

👆Good to know:

International transfers in foreign currencies can only be submitted during market opening hours for most currencies.

This means that most banks do not process transfers during weekends and holidays. When making international transfers in foreign currencies, keep in mind that there are different holidays worldwide when banks do not work. Your transfers will be processed on the next opening day during market opening hours for most currencies.

Currently, with your Qonto account, you cannot transfer currencies to individuals who are not businesses, but professional recipients such as contractors/freelancers are allowed.

If you want to pay an individual, you must provide a contractual agreement stating the payment purpose.

Your transfer may be rejected if no supporting documentation is provided, and the euro equivalent may be affected when we credit your account back.

How can I start an international transfer?

For step-by-step instructions on making an international transfer, see our article How to make an international transfer.

👆Good to know:

As part of our partnership with Wise, you can no longer send the following currencies:

  • TND (Tunisian Dinar)
  • CZK (Czech Crown)
  • SAR (Saudi Riyal)
  • BHD (Bahraini Dinar)

Please note that our team is working hard to restore the availability of these currencies.

In the meantime, as a temporary solution, you can send USD to those countries (some banks support USD or can convert USD to the intended currency - this can be checked with the beneficiary).
